On the Roof it's Peaceful as Can Be...

Not our roof. Nature can't handle our volume. We took it to the roof, for some semi-nature. We could see green trees, so that counts. Double Oh 1, 2, 3, and 4 were excited to camp out in their "spy headquarters" for the night. We toasted marshmallows over candles (sadly done in the playroom, due to the wind) before tucking them in. They made it about an hour, and then wanted to come in. Not sure if it was the getting dark factor or sleeping on poorly padded cement. The tents were moved in, and they toughed out the rest of the night in the playroom. Not even a window was open. So much for the great outdoors.

Yes, that's our wilderness tree in the foreground of the skyscrapers.

The way it is

While the 3 oldest have been mama's kids, Cohen has a special affection for his Dad. On the nights when both Brett and I are here to tuck the kids in, Brett hides under the covers with Cohen. I dutifully come in about 2 minutes later to find a big lump in or around his bed. I, of course have know idea what's under there until they throw the covers off screaming, which in turn scares the bejeebees out of me. Tonight, same routine (it's out of the question for us to scare Daddy -only Mommy). I was reading with Eli, so they had to lie in cover a little longer. Brett being the svelte man he is, tooted under their makeshift tent. After a little giggle from Cohen he followed with, "Daddy, I love you". Love doesn't get much deeper than that.

Addie and Eli are twins. While it's mostly a brother/sister relationship there are some special twin moments. When they were young I couldn't spoon the baby food fast enough to satisfy their hungry squawks. As anyone who has fed a baby knows, you put a spoonful in and about half comes back out again dribbling down their chin. Usually, you would scrape it off with the spoon and retry with the next bite. With twins, the next bite usually went to the next in line -which wasn't the one who just dribbled it out. Yeah, gross I know, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Tonight, Addie had just finished her garlic bread and gave us a big cheesy grin. We pointed out that her marvelous grin was accessorized with a large green herb stuck between her front teeth. Never fear, twin A is here! Eli jumped right in, "I'll get it for you Addie". So we watched in awe as Eli carefully picked her teeth and then redeposited it in her mouth. This may not be so odd for other kids, but my kids don't even like to share cups for fear of the others germs. He takes such good care of his sister.
