When is Daddy coming home?

Brett was either out of town or working late this past week, so all I heard was "when is Daddy coming home?" from a very eager Gavin. When Friday rolled around, he was so excited to finally show him how he could skate just like his Dad. Daily, he asks to go out and skate the minute it stops raining. Gavin was encouraged from the beginning when he received a skateboard for his 1st birthday. Though a bit of a "poser" (he always carried it around but would rarely get on) he loved it when Brett would carry him while skating up and down our street. So even here in the mid west some of the San Diego blood continues on.

One of Eli's sweet tricks.

Cohen last summer with bottle and board.

Note: Gavin's tooth is out! On the way home from Karate, Brett announced he would buy him a Webkin (we figured it would be cheaper than the dentist) if his tooth came out today. Gavin started twisting and pulling until the pain and blood made him stop. He had made a lot of progress though, it went from barely loose, to barely hanging on. As evening drew near and the window of Webkinz opportunity began to close, he let me pull it. He didn't even know it was out it was so painless. So, it didn't take pliers, a slamming door or even an apple, just the determined mind of a six year old in want of "Mike" his new snake Webkin.

Dear Tooth Fairy, PLEASE HELP!

This is Gavin's new profile. I think that tooth is here to stay. It's been loose for a while and is now tightening back up in a horizontal position just out of the way of the new tooth coming in. It just won't go back down! With Gavin's first few loose teeth I looked back upon my childhood and shuddered unable to understand what would posses members of my own family (who will remain nameless, but you know who you are) to tie a string to my tooth, the other end attached to a door knob, and slam the door (it didn't come out on the first try). I mean, why the unnecessary torture? I'm beginning to understand and though unable to repeat history myself, I may have to fly out the nameless culprit to take care of the dirty work for me.

Playgroup location: our pediatrician

Update: Cohen is taking this really well, as he only cries when his leg or foot gets bumped or tries to walk, other than that, he's happy to play. He woke up during the night crying and crawled to the hallway instead of walking. It was pretty sad, so if he is being dramatic and can remember to do so mid-sleep, he deserves some kind of award. He had X-rays done today, and they came back fine so the doc says it's probably a deep tissue injury. The other kids were a little disappointed since they wanted him to have a cast like Curious George did. Brett's imagination was running wild while doing 1099's, and was picturing him in a very little wheelchair. No cast, or wheelchair, just motrin guys, just motrin.
Gavin didn't go to school again today as he is contagious with strep throat...AGAIN! He has also lost his license to practice medicine. The doctors office rooms are not adequately prepared to entertain four kids while waiting. Gavin rolled up on the doctors stool to examine Cohen. In his deep adult voice said, "Let me have a look at your foot 'lil fella". He then grabbed Cohen's foot not all that tenderly and sent Cohen into tears. I gave him a stern look and reminded him he is not really a doctor. While I consoled Cohen, he rolled over unnoticed to Eli. That examination did not seem to go all that well either because a minute later Eli burst into tears holding his eye. I could be wrong, but I think between the extra crowded office room, the volume, the unavailability of the "doctors special rolling chair", and well, our charm...we must be their favorite patients.

Sweet, fresh, not-so-freezing air!

We enjoyed weather in the low 60's today. Gavin welcomed the glorious weather with an operatic (if that's not a word, it's about time it is) song about spring. This is him violently ill. He has stayed home from school for the last 2 days. He's been throwing up during the night and then seemingly fine during the day. He doesn't eat anything as he's afraid to throw up, but he seems to have ample energy. If he's contagious, so sorry kindergarten class, he's going back tomorrow.

While inhaling the spring air, Eli burned off winter energy pushing princess, I mean Addie. Yes, there are pedals, but should a princess really have to pedal herself around? I guess not.

Cohen wanted so badly to run and play, but couldn't. He fell off a swing earlier today at the park and can't even walk. It was only about a 6 inch fall so I didn't think much of it, I thought he just wanted carried for the love factor. But when he saw his little buddy playing baseball next door, and tried to go over, he limped, hobbled then collapsed. He's been crawling to get around tonight, the poor, sweet, little guy.

Note: I just re-read this and it sounds like he's been lame all day. The fall happened around 4 p.m., so by the time I knew more, it was a little late for doc visits. There is no swelling, discoloration or other mark of injury, so we're letting him sleep it off and see how he is in the morning. Please do not call social services.

Is this the right blog?

Yeah, thought we'd mix it up a bit. We're trying to leave our last name out so resorted to a pretty deep title, Hee! Yunno, a walk through our lives (little yellow boots) through the good and the bad (rain or shine)... anyway, my other ideas got the veto, so this is it. So sorry to those who are going to have to change link URL's.

Ham anyone?

For lunch today, some asked for turkey while others wanted peanut butter and jelly. Cohen however, ate his PB &J while serving up a whole lotta "ham". He didn't do near as much eating as he did singing. We laughed so hard, he just got more and more into it. He sang the same little diddy over and over, but added arm gestures and closed his eyes while he really got into the groove. He is usually singing "Getcha Head in the Game", or "Bet on it", from Highschool Musical and is very confident that these are HIS songs (word to the wise, one should not try to sing along while he is singing). Today's little number, was a nameless tune with words not yet published in most dictionaries, so while I didn't really get the jist of the song, I knew it must've been a good one by the deep emotion in his face. Many see him as a quiet little boy who rarely acts out. While it is true, he rarely has issues, he is far from quiet. He is our "hammiest "child by far and always seems to get laughs out of us.
